Providing impetus for a sustainable future

Creating a sustainable future

In 2015, the 193 member states of the United Nations unanimously adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which address key global challenges such as inequality, unhealthy environments, climate change and pollution. The 2030 Sustainable Development Framework promises a better future for our entire planet and to billions of people worldwide.

Progress for a more liveable planet

As one of the leading real estate development groups in Hungary and the CEE region, we have a duty to take action to help achieve these crucial goals. In line with the commitments made by the UN, we are placing particular emphasis on the following in each of our development projects:

Creating a healthy and pleasant environment
Providing clean drinking water
Supplying affordable and clean energy
Creating sustainable cities and communities
Combatting climate change

Buildings designed with sustainability in mind

Sustainability is a key element of all Futureal Group activities, including all of our urban rehabilitation projects, residential real estate and retail, industrial and office developments. Our work encompasses both environmental protection and the mental and physical health of individuals.

The pinnacle of BREEAM in practice – Focus on environmental protection

During the implementation and operation of our projects, we minimise waste generation, energy consumption and harmful emissions, while helping to preserve the richness of the natural world.

During the implementation and operation of our projects, we minimise waste generation, energy consumption and harmful emissions, while helping to preserve the richness of the natural world. We develop our projects in accordance with the BREEAM classification system, one of the highest benchmarks available for sustainability. We provide all of our ongoing projects with green solutions, such as central heating and related alternative renewable energy sources (e.g. solar panels and air-to-air heat pump systems), as well as electric car chargers. One key feature of our projects is the presence of easily accessible public transport, amply demonstrated by the fact that all of our office buildings are located within 300 meters of the nearest underground station. We place considerable importance on the widespread use of public transport, which is why we create car parks that are ideal for car sharing, as well as bicycle storage and changing rooms.

Thinking WELL – For human-centred developments

In the office sector in Hungary, Futureal has helped popularise the WELL ratings system among industry professionals with the aim of constructing office buildings that, in addition to protecting the environment, are also beneficial for the health, wellbeing and comfort of the people that work there.

In the office sector in Hungary, Futureal has helped popularise the WELL ratings system among industry professionals with the aim of constructing office buildings that, in addition to protecting the environment, are also beneficial for the health, wellbeing and comfort of the people that work there. The WELL system examines and evaluates the impact of buildings on people's bodies, their state of health and their well-being, with a focus on air and water supply, healthy eating options, natural light, physical exercise, comfort and mental freshness. The Futureal Group is committed to implementing all future office building projects in accordance with WELL guidelines. As part of a general approach to environmental awareness, the health of the users is considered one of the most important factors in the design of these buildings. Multilingual and pictorial signs in the Group's access-friendly buildings help employees find their way around. Art and design also play a key role in our investments, which is why we give space to a contemporary work of art in the immediate vicinity of each project, be it an eye-catching painting or an open-air sculpture.

Stay Safe – A new level of healthy working environments

In response to the global health emergency, Futureal has launched the Stay Safe initiative, which includes the development of comprehensive health measures and protocols and the creation of a safe environment for visitors.

Futureal has launched its Stay Safe initiative in response to the current global health emergency. The programme encompasses an entirely new way of thinking. It includes the development of comprehensive health protection safety measures and protocols and the creation of a safe environment for visitors.
Health and safety training is mandatory for new employees and guests in any office buildings managed by the Group. Health and safety inspections are held on a regular basis and full-time health personnel are on hand in the buildings.
As part of the Stay Safe initiative, in our next-generation office building currently under development, nearly all public areas will be contactless. Visitors will find automatic doors and light switches with card sensors, as well as safe-distance signs. The elevators can be operated using a telephone app, while the washrooms will be equipped with contactless flushing, hand basins and soap dispensers.

Sustainability from the ground up

At the Futureal Group, we implement programmes and initiatives across the organisation on a daily basis to enable our employees to create something lasting in their specialist area as part of a sustainable environment and a responsible corporate culture.

  • A sustainability body and team help us identify and achieve our goals
  • We are expanding the sustainability knowledge of our employees and improving corporate processes for a more livable world, through internal and external training and communication campaigns
  • We also expect our subcontractors to adhere to the highest environmental standards

We also operate our own offices in the spirit of sustainability. Our measures include:

  • Minimising paper use by utilising technological improvements and the introduction of carefully prepared guidelines
  • Creating a green environment
  • Encouraging healthy eating
  • Collecting waste selectively
  • Providing filtered, clean water throughout the office building
  • Making electric car chargers, bicycle storage and changing rooms available to promote environmentally friendly transport

Futureal's Green Bond

At the Futureal Group, we believe in setting a good example by supporting sustainable development. To this end, we have developed an Environmental Financial Framework that will allow us to provide funding even more efficiently, for example by issuing green bonds and loans for sustainability projects (eligible assets).

The evaluation and selection of eligible green assets, such as environmentally friendly (Breeam or Leed-certified) developments and renovation projects constitute a key process at Futureal. This is why we have established a Sustainable Finance Committee composed of representatives of the Group’s leadership. The Committee is responsible for ensuring that the proposed projects are in line with UN and Group values and the criteria set, and approved by the annual allocation plan and impact study.

The list of eligible green assets adopted by the Committee and related processes are managed and monitored by the Green Bond Group of Futureal experts.

In 2009, the Futureal Group was involved in the establishment of the Hungarian Green Building Council (HuGBC). The association is made up of professionals from the construction industry dedicated to supporting sustainability, the environment and architecture, with the aim of promoting sustainable and profitable construction practices in the country. Gábor Radványi, the chief architect of Futureal, represented us at the founding of the association and is currently a board member. One of our expert team also founded the Green Walk tour, which on the occasion of the international World Green Building Week offers you a chance to enjoy a tour of various examples of Hungarian environmentally friendly buildings otherwise closed to the public. Several of Futureal Group's projects are included on the tour. Futureal's director of sustainable development is Gábor Radványi, and members of the association's WELL working group are Mónika Vértesy and Edit Ferenczy.
